There are a growing number of political activities during the upcoming week. All the activities are designed to make us stronger as workers and as a Union. Below, I am sharing three that you may want to take part in.
First, the LCFT, IFT and the WE ARE ONE coalition are asking that you call or send a message to your lawmakers between April 29th and May 1st about fixing our unfair pension system. There are two easy ways you can take part and help next week.
Second, on Sunday, April 27th, there is a “For the People” bus tour put on by Democratic legislators to raise awareness of federal budget cuts and explain how they are acting to safeguard programs and provide financial relief to working families. The “For the People” Bus Tour will stop in Buffalo Grove between noon and 1 p.m. at Mike Rylko Community Park amphitheater, 1000 N. Buffalo Grove Road. State Sens. Mary Edly-Allen, Adriane Johnson, and Mark Walker will meet constituents at the Buffalo Grove stop. Stop by and speak with your state senators!
Lastly, Thursday, May 1st is International Workers’ Day, often referred to as “May Day.” There are many statewide ‘Fight Back’ rallies happening to fight for more support for workers, unions, and public education. LCFT is hoping to get people to attend the local rally in Gurnee called "Indivisible Western Lake Co. May Day Strong: We are the Many". The event is from 3pm-5pm on May 1st at 6577 Grand Ave. in Gurnee. Come for as long as you are able.
Please reply to this short survey if you are willing to participate in any of the activities above. https://forms.gle/JriWmft5HFSYa2jy9
Please plan to join thousands of unionists in Illinois and across the nation this May Day to demonstrate our collective power, on May 1st and every day of the year.
