Woodland Federation of Teachers and Staff Ratifies Important Pay Increase to Strengthen Recruitment, Retention, and Student Support
Mar 09, 2026

The Woodland Federation of Teachers and Staff announced ratification by its union membership of a tentative agreement reached with the Woodland C.C. School District 50 Board of Education regarding salary increases for all educators and support staff. This marks an important step toward addressing longstanding recruitment and retention challenges tied to chronic low pay. Just under 75% of union members voted, and of those, 99% chose to approve the increases. The tentative agreement provides a meaningful pay boost designed to help the district become more competitive county-wide and ensure that students have access to experienced, dedicated professionals.

WFTS President and Math Interventionist, Shelly Carlson, released the following statement upon the union’s ratification of the 2022-2027 contract amendment: “This amendment marks a turning point for our district. For far too long, chronic low pay has made it difficult to recruit and retain teachers and staff to fulfill the needs of the district. This salary increase is not only much-deserved recognition of our members’ work; it's also an investment in our students. When we can keep skilled professionals in our school buildings, we create stability, strengthen relationships, and provide the consistent, high-quality learning environment that every child needs and deserves. We’re proud of this progress and look forward to building on it together.”

Following almost two months of mid-term bargaining that began in January, the tentative agreement comes after sustained advocacy from union members who have urged district leaders to prioritize competitive compensation as a foundation for student achievement. With these improved salary structures, the district is better positioned to fill vacancies, reduce turnover, and provide continuous instruction and support. The Board of Education will vote on the contract amendment at its March 17, 2026, regularly scheduled meeting.
